Rob Nicholls


Rob Nicholls, CEO, is a market economist and experienced business strategist with a great depth of industry and technical experience.

Rob has an extensive working knowledge of the evolving climate change business system gained from projects associated with sustainability planning, risk mitigation, eco-focused investments and carbon markets. He has a solid understanding of the international and national climate change frameworks, protocols, mechanisms, policies & systems related to mitigating & abating GHG emissions and the related implications for business continuity, including managing carbon constrained risks and developing adaptation strategies.

Rob has led a diverse range of strategic consulting engagements for many top 100 Australian & British companies across a variety of sectors including Consumer Goods, Manufacturing, Energy, Finance, Insurance, Rail, Aviation, Telecommunications and Construction. Such experience has proved critical for understanding, pinpointing and remedying carbon risks and new business opportunities as well as the response plans which are necessary to secure their future.

Rob’s experience also extends into the SME domain, working with clients to understand their climate and carbon risks, particularly in areas such as supply chains, business processes & cost structures. He contributes some of his time guest speaking at various functions as a commitment to helping the middle market better understand the critical issues and impacts created by the impending low carbon economy.

He is also a Director of Optimal Business Solutions Consulting, a specialist advisory firm. Over the past 4 years he has been working in the climate change & carbon management field providing guidance and advice to firms on strategies for adapting to the new low carbon economy.

Qualifications Rob has an MBA from Macquarie Graduate School of Management, a Bachelor of Business (Honours) from Southern Cross University and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of New England. He holds professional certificates in financial analysis from the University of Technology Sydney and project management (PRINCE2) from the Association of Project Management in the UK. Rob also holds a Certificate IV in workplace Training & Assessment (TAA40104).
