Formerly a TAFE facilitator in Demolition Supervision, Asbestos Awareness & Construction Induction, Winton has been concerned about anthropogenic environmental impacts for sometime. To do something significant, his former demolition company – Becwins – maintained a building materials recycling yard which received rescued re-usable building materials normally destined for landfill. Many houses in the Blue Mountains now have those re-claimed materials incorporated into their structure because of Winton’s work.
From a social perspective, Winton was conscious of the safety of his personnel in a highly dangerous industry. It was from here that he embarked on various innovations in safe demolition methodology which eventually led to his facilitation role in safety at TAFE.
When Winton came across the GHG Accounting Standard he realised how much organisations could improve their financial and environmental performance by managing their carbon emission sources.
Winton has an M.Sc., major in Climate Change & Sustainable Resource Management, B. Comm. and completed the CTI Certificate IV course in Carbon Management in late 2010. Since then he has trained well over 100 students at Certificate IV level so far.
Winton is passionate about the part he can play in motivating and assisting people to acquire the skills they need to take their organisations to the forefront in environmental and energy efficiency management.
